Bio

John Dolmayan (born August 12, 1977, Beirut, Lebanon) is an Armenian-American musician best known as the drummer of System of a Down, the heavy metal band he joined in 1995. Raised in Los Angeles, Dolmayan developed a powerful, deliberate drumming style characterised by dynamic contrast, thunderous tom work, and a compositional intelligence that prioritises emotional impact over technical showmanship. SOAD’s five studio albums — including the critically acclaimed Toxicity (2001), featuring the landmark track “Chop Suey!” — established him as one of the defining drummers of early-2000s alternative metal. Beyond drumming, Dolmayan is the owner of Torpedo Comics, a chain of comic book stores in Nevada, and has been publicly vocal on political and social issues.
